How it all started...

Keeping foundation vents closed in the winter (and open in the summer) is a prime concern for Northwest homeowners.

Virtually all of the dual-chamber plastic foundation vents installed since 1980 have problems that prevent the damper doors from staying securely closed.  The problem is that the vent housing warps slightly when the concrete around it dries and the home begins to settle over it.  With that slight misalignment, the dampers just  don't stay closed.  In areas where temperatures can fall below freezing, those dampers need to be shut to create a dead-air space under the house to retain heat and seal out moisture.  In the summer the vents need to be open to ensure air flow to control humidity and vent Radon gas.  Since my Snowbird Services, LLC business consists of monitoring temporarily vacant properties, I HAD to find a way to keep those dampers closed in the winter.  From that necessity arose invention.
